Bus Day

Hi Folks,

We have not made a lot of progress on our persuasive writing/speeches and we are running out of time until the school competition. Today's bus cancellation has not helped. However, anyone who wants to go on to the school competition is encouraged to be ready for tomorrow. This was pointed out last Friday and I have a list of those who want to do it tomorrow.

The remaining students can present next week when we have more time. There will still be time in class over the next couple of days to work on their persuasive writing and speeches. Practicing speeches at home is encouraged.

Wednesday I will be away, Thursday we are at Highlands and Friday is a PA day.

We have started a new math unit, Measurement and a new science unit, Rocks and Minerals.

The grade 4 speeches are based on persuasive writing. We have been working on our first persuasive writing for the past week and they are almost finished. We officially start our persuasive writing for our speech on Tuesday. We are setting aside a lot of time in class to work on them, but some time will be needed at home.

Our social studies for the first term is almost done. There will be a test on Wednesday and it is based on the following: 1. letter and number grid
                             2. compass direction
                             3. capital cities of Canada
                             4. physical regions of Ontario
                             5. natural resources - wood/paper
                             6. natural resources - soil/animal
Studying from social studies duotang would be advised. We will have a review Tuesday.

We are going to try and finish our math unit this week (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing)

Hi Folks,

Spelling words are:
 1. pattern
 2. attribute
 3. extend
 4. create
 5. identify
 6. equation
 7. chart
 8. chain
 9. increase
10. decrease

Patterning test tomorrow. We did the Chapter Review from the text and a practise test on the board to study for the test. Reviewing these would help your child prepare for the test.

We wil be starting a numeration unit shortly. The unit is based on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

We have also started social studies again and the boys and girls have been organized into groups and will be researching a province or territory of Canada. They all have a package that includes learning goals, success criteria, rubric and research organizer.

This time of the year tends to be very busy, with lots of things happening at school and home. We will try and maintain a routine in the class.

Hi Folks,

No spelling this week as we are hosting the spirit assembly this Friday at 1:45 and we need time to prepare.

The boys and girls are finishing up their Bruce Trail recounts this week as well. Some are done and we hope to have the rest done in the next couple of days. Thursday will be the due date. We will be working on narratives next.

Habitat and communities in science is almost done. Still waiting for a couple of tests to be students who have been absent.

We are working on patterning in math. The boys and girls seem to enjoy this strand.

Just a reminder, our trips to Highlands Nordic begin after the Christmas break.
